Mexico Rafting Information

Join Eastwind Cycle for and exciting journey deep into Mexico's largest tropical rain forest, the Montes Azules reserve along the Chiapas/Guatemala border. This is a trip that is accessible to most levels of physical ability as you travel by raft on the waters of the Lacantun and Usumacinta Rivers. The region drained by the Usumacinta is unique in many ways. It is considered one of the world's most biologically diverse areas with over 112 species of fish alone as well as myriad species of birds, mammals ands insects. Its cultural significance is also immense in that it was at the centre of Mayan civilization supporting a population of five million people at its apex in 700AD. The legacies of that civilization found in the ruins of Bonampak and Yaxchilan, still far from the heavily visited tourist sites, are stunning in their grandeur and isolation.

This trip does much more than give you an unforgettable outdoor adventure. Eastwind takes care of you every step of the way and shows you some of Mexico's most fascinating and picturesque sights while traveling to the ruins at Palenque, the turquoise waterfalls at Agua Azul, the colonial gem San Cristobal de las Casas and visiting the Tzotzil market town of San Juan Chamula. In the jungle, rough it in style sleeping in tents riverside, and on the road stay in great inns while sampling some of the culinary specialties of this region.
